36+? 'Spring Fringe'
We're really excited to launch 'Spring Fringe', a programme of events running alongside Spring Fling 2015 in London aimed at dancers outside the formal age range of Spring Fling. As well as the two evening dances and the musicians' workshop, there will be a workshop near the Spring Fling class venue so that everyone can join in the dancing weekend.
Spring Fling is an annual RSCDS event organised by and for young dancers aged 12-35. The organisers of Spring Fling London 2015 wanted to spread the fun to dancers over the formal age range of Spring Fling and the result is “Spring Fringe”, This aims to involve all dancers in the festivities of the weekend of dancing. We hope you enjoy it.

Spring Fringe Teacher: Mervyn Short
Mervyn Short lives in Rustington, West Sussex on the south coast of England. He is a member of Berks/Hants/Surrey Border Branch of the RSCDS. Mervyn started Scottish country dancing nearly forty years ago and qualified as a teacher three years later with the Imperial Society Teachers of Dancing. Around the same time he also started Highland dancing and after passing medal tests qualified to teach. He then taught children and adults regularly at all levels. In 1995 Mervyn gained his RSCDS Full Certificate. Since then he has taught at day and weekend schools all over the UK, Europe, America, Canada and Japan. He also regularly teaches at Summer & Winter Schools. Six years ago he reduced his working hours so that he could devote more time to dancing. He is an assessor for children’s medal tests and tutors candidates for the Society’s teaching examinations. He is very keen to maintain the technique and traditions of Scottish country dancing but appreciates that it is an evolving dance form and in 2009 he published a book of dances with an accompanying CD. After three years, Mervyn retired last November from the Education & Training Committee.
